Even while CrossFit is becoming more popular, people still have several questions about it…
At CrossFit Haywood we want all of our members to have full knowledge about what they are getting into. There is a lot of misinformation out there and we want to help you sort through it all. If you have a question that isn’t on the following list or would like more information on a specific question, please contact us or stop by. We would love to show you how it all works…
1. What is the WOD?
“Workout of the Day”
2. What is RX’d?
RX’d is a weight designation that will be established in every WOD. It stands for “prescribed” just like it does in the medical world.
3. What is a CrossFit box?
A CrossFit box is the gym.
4. What does it mean to be a CrossFit Affiliate gym?
CrossFit is headquarters located in California. Affiliate gyms pay a fee which allows them to use the CrossFit name, logo, and materials. Having affiliate gyms helps ensure that the trainers are knowledgeable and promoting the sport in a safe way and smart way.
5. Who can do CrossFit?
Anyone. No matter what your age or skill level, everyone is welcome at CrossFit Live Loud. We have members from 14 up to 60. The way we are able to make sure everyone can participate is through our scaled programming.
6. What if I can’t use the recommended weight or do a movement in the WOD?
No problem! CrossFit is all about bettering yourself, which may be different from how another member needs to better themselves. All WODs will have a RX and Scaled designation. If you aren’t sure which you should be doing, ask the coach!
7. Will I / can I get big doing CrossFit?
Is it possible? Absolutely. The movements in CrossFit are meant to help build muscle. However, getting “big” takes a lot more work than people realize. A main part of this is done through diet and supplementation which is usually only achieved if someone makes it a goal. Otherwise, most people see results of losing fat, tightening skin, muscle growth and tone.
8. Is CrossFit a cult?
Many people who are not a part of CrossFit call it a cult, but really we are a family. The bonds and relationships that members develop in the box run deep. Our members count on one another to push, encourage, and support each other. Whether you are the first or last to finish, you can count on our fellow members to be there cheering you on!
